jump to forward scuff feels the most natural to me. a good place to start.

starting on a higher ledge or mani pad will make it easier. to almost lock into the coast. there is a point your body will eventually find you just have to do it so much to really know it. at least for me if i do it on a curb i have to really think about jumping a little lighter
for sit down coasts ^
speed is good too
but also something that helps to get more control in coasts in general is practicing really slow coasts . almost crawls. so slow you end up standing still. reallly helps gain control and will help with everything from turning in coasts and jumping into coasts. also really fun to do. its calm

Jump to coast is harder to get into but is easier to balance. While jump to scuff is easier to get into but harder to balance. I personally would start with scuff.

to get consistency in coasts just means practice. like anything. but the good thing about sit down coasts is you can practice them on your way to rides on your way to work. going back to do another attempts.

Some tips I find that help for regular hop to coast: 1. Make sure you're sitting when you land and always keep the uni close to you. You don't want any space between you in the seat. 2. Find a ledge/curb that is a good height. 30-50cm is probably good. That way you can "roll" onto it as opposed to "landing" on it. You want a smooth roll into the coast, not a hard and sudden landing. 3. Speed. Find a good riding pace. Experiment with different speeds. Generally I find a good moderate speed into it is good. And sometimes riding slow, but flipping your wheel fast is a good idea. 4. And obviously before you try it, you should make sure you're confident in dropping off a ledge from coasting. 5. I also personally find that having your free hand (the one doing the balancing) should be the hand that's on the same side as the foot you have dangling for balance. So if you coast with your right foot out, you should hop up using your left hand with your right hand for balance. 6. Practice and good luck! This was really damn hard for me to learn and took a long time, so expect a slow learning curve. That's all I can think of.

Ok i didnt read properly if anyone mentioned this already but mimo told me into onefootride is a great buildup wether its crankflip to onefoot on flat, or hop up a curb to onefoot. It worked for me i was able to get one hop to onefootcoast in the session that i tried building up with this! Jacks thorough analyze looks interesting ima head back to this comment field later to have a look at this

oh yeah ivar! actually something i completely forget i did when i was learning. i should do it again to get back into it. one footer into one one foot riding up curbs and stuff if great. and slowly get into the coast faster. one foot to one foot riding and even just tap your foot on the pedal and then let go until you can do it without any tap at all
