Unicon Sessions Part 3

I had an extremely productive sesh last night lol. I got my first ever blind 10s to seat in. That's been on my list for probably over a decade at this point. I was so fired up I went for some 12s and ended up doing 9 in total over the next hour. The technique is starting to feel significantly more dialed in, and for the first time a 1440 is looking like a real possibility.

The Placebo Defect

We have a winner! Guillaume L. has found 13 easter eggs referring to our favorite unicycling movie, Defect, hidden throughout Placebo. Defect has been very influential to a whole generation of unicyclists. In itself, much of Jakob’s riding and my riding are references to the movie. When we travelled and had the opportunity to ride some of the spots these riders hit more than 20 years ago, we realized just how progressive their riding was at the time. So please, if you hadn’t already, go watch Defect on Dan Heaton’s Vimeo channel (and while you’re there, you might as well check out Revolution One to enrich your une general knowledge!). And here’s a little edit of some of those shoutouts, just for fun. 😅

Placebo - Summer 2026 Road Trip Video

More is more, right? Earlier this summer, Jakob and I went on a road trip across eastern Canada to discover or rediscover some of the best urban spots of the country. Incidentally, this year marked my 25th year riding, I figured I should be doing a little something to celebrate. Our level isn’t what it used to be, but we had a great time and got to catch up with old friends along the way. Here’s our journey.

Unicon Workshop: Difficulty of Tricks (Sport Science)

Hello, I think many of you thought about difficulty of tricks for quite some time already. I did for sure. So much so, this almost got the topic for my thesis graduating sport science in university. So, I'm giving an intro how to look at difficulty through the lens of a sport scientist. It wouldn't matter if we talk standgliding, 720 unispin or the javelin throw from athletics. You'll also learn why it didn't become my thesis and what I did instead and why this is big for the unicycling community (even this beautiful place). Workshop is happening on 6th of August, 10:30 - 12:30 (theory and practical application) in the City hall (it's listed under Freestyle Workshops). Hope to see one or the other there.

STREET UNi X Update 2.0 now available on Steam and itch.io!!

Hey folks! As i mentioned a little while ago a huge update for STREET UNi X has been underway as i also prepare for some other big moves with the game (more details on that soon) In the meantime you can see what has updated in the update announcement here on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/2204900/view/670621050832159391 There's a whole bunch more tricks, some new movement options, and overall a greater sense of polish and optimization. I know some of the levels were running a little poorly on some folks PCs and that should be drastically improved with this update. Hope you like it! Thanks for continuing to inspire me! megaside or megabackside?

Here's a combo that has both megasides (from front outside crank, and from back outside crank)... so Dale and I have been arguing about this for a while now: should we call it megaside or megabackside? And which one is blind and which is regular? Here's my argument: it is technically a backside jump, so it should be called megabackside. I've done a variation of it that is technically a side jump, so that one can be called megaside. I think the one from front outside crank position should be called "blind" because if you add a spin (which spins in the same direction as the wrap), it would be blind (using "away from front foot" as my definition for blind). So, in this clip, I would say it's a blind megabackside, then a regular megabackside. Dale's argument: Megaside is much less of a mouthful than blind megabackside. And since 99% of the time, riders are doing the variation from front outside crank position (the first one in the video), then it would make more sense to simply call it megaside, especially in a competition setting. The one from back outside crank should be blind megaside because it's slightly less common. So, Dale would say that in this clip, it's a megaside, then a blind megaside.
