Not sure what they are, but I used "T-nuts" on my CF base to make a thread in the base.

my base is filed out square already so these would be super great to replace the carriage bolts. if i can’t find out what these are called i think i am probably going to file the holes hexagonally so i can put flange nuts in, at least at the handle.
do the t nuts have the teeth that bite in like t nuts for wood? does that damage the carbon?
Colby Thomas
mos I just pry the teeth flat and gorilla tape them in

colby i am guessing your holes are square or round and the t-nut bit is round. does the pressure from the tape/the bolts getting tightened keep the handle and seatpost tight enough?

I drilled a small hole for one tooth. The other 3 made flat on each.

Isn't your base brand new? Why are you already replacing the inserts? Instead of Gorilla Tape you can use an epoxy, as a more permanent solution. https://www.facebook.com/groups/115835695144753/permalink/885373648190950 The second time around I did this I did what Scott mentioned in the first comment. If I had to do it again, I would also screw in the handle, post and bumper before the epoxy is sets in (probably with something protective in between so they don't glue to the base with residual epoxy) to ensure the inserts are at the perfect angle. Either that, or drill one whole like Scott suggested, and then use gorilla tape, for a semi-permanent solution. You can also check this video tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ti8kGNW1_I& Good luck with your project, seats are the crappiest unicycle part to handle.

sweet, thanks everyone. @emile, my base is brand new but i don't like the carriage bolts sticking down from by base, especially by the handle because they bother me for full out flips. does anyone have Axel Kästle's instagram/email? that was his picture originally from like 2010 and i wonder if he remembers where he got those bolts.
