I just assembled a new 20" une and it signals an official end of my trial years, to instead take up learning flatland/flatstyle. My body just didn't feel right anymore with riding trials and taking big impacts, and on top of that a following L4-L5 disc protrusion in 2023 (during yoga!) just made it clear I won't be tucking with such peace of mind anymore so it's best to switch lanes to a discipline with less impacts. Now, that the disc has healed, I also shifted my mindset about sport and movement from needing it to be "extreme", to being content and excited from just the movement itself. I mean, you can get so creative and move in many more ways, using different and possibly more muscle groups in a more simmetrical way than doing only jumps. Lately, I really started feeling joy while expressing myself through dance and taking up flatstyle just makes total sense now (but this idea has been brewing in me since 2020). To me, riding styles of Pablo Rodriguez Codes, Ivar Christenson and Ayrton Vasquez are dancing on and with unicycles, and I absolutely adore that notion and I aspire to take up this new discipline and way of thinking. Here's to a new decade and new "trials"!
